Dr. Doughty grew up in South Florida but finished college at Texas Tech University. He later got his dental degree from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. After working for several years as a general dentist in Florida, Dr. Doughty enrolled and completed a residency in the specialty of endodontics at the Temple Univeristy School of Dental Medicine in Philadelphia. He has been practicing endodontics in Austin since 1994.
